Introducing AXC-BM3DF G2!

I’m Very Excited to announce the AXC-BM3DF G2! The natural successor to the original BM3DF that brings continuous autofocus to manual lenses! To achieve this AXC-BM3DF G2 now features a new hardware interface that communicates with a Tilta Nucleus Nano motor to control lens focus. You can use this system on virtually ANY CAMERA with virtually ANY LENS

This has been among the most requested features for the BM3DF from the very beginning, with users of RED, Panasonic and many other camera bodies who were looking to add LiDAR Autofocus functionality to their workflow. Through the development efforts over the past year this is now a reality.

The first batch of AXC-BM3DF G2 has gone through final assembly and is now going through final steps of firmware development and testing. Shipping is anticipated for Late June / Early July. Ordering is available now

What cameras does AXC-BM3DF G2 work with?

Because AXC-BM3DF G2 does not require any communication with the camera in order to control lens focus, this system works with virtually any camera body. Frankly, you can power up the system without any camera at all! ( although not sure if there is a practical use for this! )

What lenses does AXC-BM3DF G2 work with?

You can use virtually any lens with the system, granted you can control focus of the lens using a Tilta Nucleus Nano motor.

Manual focus lenses ( especially cine style with geared focus rings ) with hard stops will work best with this system. Lenses without hard stops can be used, but performance may vary as you will need to manually calibrate the end stops.

Focus by wire lenses will have trouble working with this system due to the intrinsic nature of these kinds of lenses. These are not recommended.

Parfocal lenses are recommended as they will provide the best results.

What external motors are supported by the AXC-BM3DF G2?

The AXC-BM3DF G2 supports the Tilta Nucleus Nano motor. It connects to the motor using an included 2.5mm cable.

Can the AXC-BM3DF G2 power the Tilta Nucleus Nano?

The 2.5mm connection between the AXC-BM3DF G2 and the Tilta Nucleus Nano motor is strictly used for control only, which means users must appropriately supply the motor with it's own power.

Higher voltage power input for the Tilta Nucleus Nano is also recommended for larger/stiffer lenses and do improve overall responsiveness.

Do you need to calibrate lenses on the AXC-BM3DF G2?

Yes, a similar procedure to the original AXC-BM3DF is used to perform lens calibration.

Lens calibration can be performed once and can be saved/recalled on demand by the user, so you will not need to perform lens calibration each time you boot up the device.

How many lens calibrations can be stored on the AXC-BM3DF G2?

Due to ongoing firmware development, this is to be determined.

Does AXC-BM3DF G2 support electronic lens control with Blackmagic Cameras like the original version?

Due to ongoing firmware development, this is to be determined.

Is the AXC-BM3DF G2 firmware upgradable?

Yes, it will initially launch with firmware version 1.0.0
